Diamonds and High Tea
The epitome of indulgence
The historic home has stood watch over the city streets since 1752 from where some of Cape Town’s wealthiest and most influential merchant families entertained a bevy of notable guests. In the early 1800’s a group of wine merchants exporting wine from the Franschoek Valley to Europe and other parts of the world, took over the property, and converted it into the biggest wine trading centre in South Africa, after Groot Constantia Estate. Today the intimate wine cellar houses the Prins & Prins Goldsmith Atelier (Aurum Art), as well the Museum of Gems and Jewellery.
Guests will enjoy a private tour of this historical, and authentically restored, Early Cape home before exploring the Prins & Prins atelier where master goldsmiths use age-old techniques to transform gems into breath-taking bespoke pieces. Your host will share his expert knowledge on selecting a stone and the handcrafted process while you watch the artists at work.
The experience culminates in a sumptuous English High Tea served in the diamond Atelier where visitors are free to try on anything their heart desires. A private consultation room is made available should you wish to take advantage of expert advice on purchasing a diamond, tanzanite, or other gemstones from one of four qualified gemmologists.
